Crisalis, the world’s first bull
Ranked first in the world in the Italian PFT ranking for Proven Holstein bulls, Crisalis’ daughters embody the model of the modern cow, producing top-quality milk. And it’s a quality that comes straight from Veneto!

Something epic and unexpected has happened, defying all predictions. We are witnessing the rise of a great bull, and great bulls exceed expectations. Just like Miura, Prince, Bookie, and Boss Iron, Crisalis has gone beyond what his pedigree foretold, standing out beyond the trends of the moment.
Crisalis
That Crisalis was a bull of extraordinary impact was clear from the very beginning, when even Holstein International, the “Forbes” of dairy cattle breeding, described him as special, long before the performance of his daughters was known. Today, with nearly 3,000 daughters across more than 500 farms worldwide, Crisalis undeniably stands as the best bull in the world, a true symbol of Italian excellence in dairy cattle breeding.
With the recent update to sire evaluation criteria, Crisalis’s greatness shines through even more. A unique bloodline, daughters with functional udders, and high-quality feet and legs, these traits were already written in his DNA. Selected six years ago as just a calf, Crisalis was chosen with foresight and a vision beyond passing trends. Today, that future has arrived.
He had already held the number one spot in Italy for three consecutive evaluations, but Crisalis has gone further, staying ahead of his time and now claiming the top position in the world.
The Rankings
As of April, the selection guidelines for the Holstein breed place even greater emphasis on the Italian market’s need for milk with a higher protein content, an essential requirement given the country’s deep-rooted cheesemaking tradition.
At the same time, selection now prioritizes fertile, long-living animals with functional udders and strong legs, key traits for a more sustainable dairy farming model.
Starting this year, bulls with lower levels of inbreeding are also rewarded, yet another strength in Crisalis’s favor
